Once your teeth are in their ideal positions, treatment is not over. Yes, the most difficult part is done, but now it is time for the retention stage. During this stage, you will wear a retainer to hold your teeth in their new positions. The retention stage lasts at least 24 months. We use three different types of retainers at Eberle Orthodontics.
Perhaps the most common retainer type, it is removable and made from metal and acrylic. It is custom made for a perfect fit. We can make the acrylic part in a variety of colors and patterns.
Fixed retainers are bonded to the teeth and placed on the backs of the teeth. This makes the retainer invisible, but it does make cleaning the teeth a bit more difficult. Those who have worn braces will know just what to do.
Essix retainers are clear and removable, fitting over the teeth. These retainers are invisible and are very similar to Invisalign. As such, those who used Invisalign will be comfortable with this style of retainer.
